Dad's Strange Behavior Unsettled Some Before Child's Killing

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/dads-strange-behavior-unsettled-some-childs-killing-n282581

A father in Florida was arrested for throwing his 5 year old daughter off the side of a bridge and killing her.  They haven't been able to tell whether the daughter was dead before her father threw her off the bridge or not.  There were also some reports of the father acting very strange before the incident.  There were a couple of occasions where he was reported talking very strangely and angrily, but he had never been diagnosed with any mental illness before this.

He was offered a attorney, but he declined and said he wanted to leave it in the hands of God.  The police said that acting crazy isn't enough for them to come in and commit somebody.  This is a very sad incident that occurred and I it seems like they are happening more and more lately.  I don't know if it is just me or if more and more people are committing these types of crimes more.  I wonder what leads to people doing this and how could we start to prevent these types of things happening in the future.

A man was charged with aggravated assault after catching a 19 year old boy with his 17 year old daughter in his apartment.  Reports said that the father punched the teen in the face and then drug him to the kitchen where he cut off his dreadlocks with a knife.  Then when the teen ran out the door the father yelled at him not to run because he had a gun.  The father later confessed and said sorry to the teen, but received no apology in return.

The man was just being a father and lost his temper.  I think he had every right to be angry at the boy, but he could have handled the situation better.  He took it way to far when he chopped off the teens hair with a knife and also when he threatened him with a imaginary gun.  Emotions get to everybody though and I think he just had a moment of weakness.  Who was more at wrong the boy or the father?

Supreme Court delays action on gay marriage

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/01/09/supreme-court-gay-marriage/21454467/

This topic is getting really old and annoying to me so it really bothers me when they can't make up their minds.  In my opinion same sex marriage is going to be allowed no matter what because people see it as a constitutional right.  I would like to see the supreme court hurry up with their decision because this conversation seems to have been going on forever.  It is already allowed in over 2/3 of the states, but the other 1/3 is still banning same sex marriage.  I think that the reason they are taking longer is more because it is a touchy subject for some people.  It will make some people very angry if they choose to allow it and this is slowing them down in my opinion.

NJ college students give school 'F' for spending $210G on hawk statue

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/01/09/nj-college-students-give-school-f-for-spending-210g-on-hawk-statue/

A school in New Jersey has decided to spend 210,000 dollars on a statue of the schools mascot.  The school said that they want to improve the school spirit and build a better sense of belonging to the Campus.  The Students that attend have a different opinion though.  They are outraged that their tuition fees that are 40% higher than the national norm are being spend on this other then other items that they would value more.  A quote from a student says "You know what could really help school spirit?" student Jo Landau told The Record. "If tuition weren’t so high, if there were parking spots for everyone, if everyone actually knew who their academic adviser was, and if the administration actually listened to students like they say they will.”

I think that this is a huge waste of money for any school.  It doesn't make since to be making purchases like that if your school has other problems that need fixing.  If I were a student there I would be very mad.  The school should get the opinion of the students on what there money should be spent on.

December Caps a Strong Year for Jobs, but Wages Dip

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/10/business/economy/jobs-unemployment-figures-december.html?_r=0

I think that everybody has been focused on all of the negative aspects of our economy right now including myself.  This is why I was  a little surprised when I saw some of the data.  The U.S. added 252,000 jobs in December.  Over the past couple of years there has been a steady increase of jobs and the rate has continued to rise.

I couldn't get the graphs to work, but you can see them on the article.

Change in Jobs and Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate has fallen from 8 to 5.6% in the last 2 years.  I think that this could be a good sign that we are on the right track.

The article also talked about how the wages also fell in December.  I think this is a problem that should be considered when we are creating new jobs at these rates.

Obama To Propose Free Community College Program

I saw free college and I had to read this article.  It really wasn't all that new, basically Obama mentioned wanting to create a plan to try and make it possible for everybody to get funded to attend a community college if they were willing to work hard enough and meet certain standards.  To me it sounded very similar to scholarships on a more national level.  He didn't know where any funding would come from which is why some people think it is a little further down the road then it sounds.

I think it could be a good thing to try to help educate more people and help them get better jobs, but it also sounds like it would be very expensive as well.  The article said that is wouldn't be just for college aged students, but for everybody, so anybody who wanted to could get a education.  It just sounds like it would cost way to much money for our government to pay for.

4 issues raised at the House Ebola hearing Oct. 25

http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/24/politics/house-ebola-hearing/index.html?hpt=po_c2

A popular topic right now is over the spread of Ebola.  America was put through a scare when two nurses caught the virus.  This article list 4 problems with the way that things went down.  1.Why did the president invite a lawyer to attend the hearing in place of the czar instead of someone with medical experience.  It would make since to want somebody with a better background in medical terms rather then law.  I don't think this was really a big deal though because originally they wanted the czar of Ebola, but he declined.  2.There was a debate over where our troops positioned in Africa should spend their recovery/quarantine.  Some wanted them to spend more time in Africa before coming back to the US and others wanted them to come back to the US sooner.  3.There were complaints about the supplies and training that nurses had received prior tot he breakout.  A survey said that 85% of nurses felt they hadn't been adequately trained for these situations.  This is where I think the problem was.  The bigger scare wasn't when the first patient came down with Ebola, but when it started to spread to the doctors.  Our hospitals should be well trained and prepared incase of emergencies.  4.The CDC had originally said that everything was ok in order to make the public feel better.  When the two nurses came down with the virus they were forced to admit that mistakes were made and that they should have been more cautious.  While I think that this situation has been taken care of it is still scary that things like this can happen.  We expect our government to prevent these things from happening.
